The Disability Services Center (DSC) is a specialized unit established to support students with disabilities at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. This service was first established on May 2, 2007, under the name Center for Disability Studies and Services (PSLD). The idea to establish the PLD was inspired by the experiences of its founders and students with disabilities who had already been studying at UIN Sunan Kalijaga before this institution was established.
Over time, the PLD officially became part of the structure under the Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga. This change began on May 2, 2014, when the Center for Disability Studies and Services turned seven years old and changed its name to the Disability Services Center (PLD). This name change accompanied the change in status of the Center for Disability Studies and Services (PSLD) from a non-structural research institution to a structural service institution under LPPM.
Now, in addition to functioning as a service unit, PLD also serves as an academic research center on disability issues. Some of the topics covered include disability and Islam, inclusive education, access to employment, policy studies related to the rights of persons with disabilities, and others. The existence of PLD is a tangible manifestation of UIN Sunan Kalijaga's commitment to realizing inclusive education, especially for students with special needs.
